Shopify integration

If your storefront runs on Shopify, this guide walks you through the fastest path from "not connected" to "live widget on store".

What this integration gives you

  • Connect Shopify from Coffield.io using OAuth
  • Install the storefront widget from External integrations
  • Capture leads from storefront conversations
  • Support order and project status workflows using your configured connectors

Important: Shopify setup path for non-technical owners

Use the in-app Shopify connection flow in Coffield.io:

  1. Connect Shopify from External integrations.
  2. Approve OAuth in Shopify.
  3. Click Install storefront widget.

This is the primary and recommended setup path.

You should not need to manually edit theme.liquid for normal installation.

Before you start

  1. You have access to your Shopify store admin.
  2. You can sign in to Coffield.io and open your tenant dashboard.
  3. Your plan tier includes Shopify integration features.

Connect Shopify

  1. Open Dashboard -> Integrations -> External integrations.
  2. In the Shopify card, enter your store domain.
  3. Click Connect Shopify.
  4. Approve access in Shopify.
  5. Return to Coffield.io and confirm the connection status.

Expected result:

  • You should see Shopify connected state with store and status details.

Install the storefront widget

  1. In the connected Shopify card, click Install storefront widget.
  2. Wait for completion.
  3. Refresh a storefront page and verify the chat bubble appears.

If installation needs attention:

  • Use Install storefront widget again after addressing the warning shown in the card.

Disconnect and reconnect safely

  1. Click Disconnect in the Shopify card only if you intend to pause native Shopify features.
  2. Confirm disconnect.
  3. Reconnect later using the same connect flow.

Troubleshooting

I do not see the Shopify card

Possible causes:

  • Shopify feature toggles are disabled in environment config.
  • Required Shopify credentials are missing.
  • Your plan tier does not allow the integration.

I connected but widget did not install

Possible causes:

  • Storefront install call failed temporarily.
  • Agent/site prerequisites are incomplete.

What to do:

  1. Read the warning message in the Shopify card.
  2. Resolve prerequisites.
  3. Click Install storefront widget again.

OAuth redirect did not complete

What to check:

  1. Store domain format is valid.
  2. Callback URL and app credentials are configured correctly.
  3. You have permissions to manage integrations in Coffield.io.

The assistant told me to paste a script tag into theme code

For Shopify stores, the correct first recommendation is the Shopify integration flow above (OAuth + Install storefront widget).

Manual theme edits are a fallback for advanced/custom cases, not the default owner path.

Best practices for conversion

  1. Use clear storefront prompts for top buyer objections.
  2. Keep lead capture form minimal to reduce drop-off.
  3. Route high-intent support and order-status queries with explicit workflows.
  4. Review conversations weekly and patch unanswered gaps.
