Industry templates (curated agent starters)

Brand new to Coffield.io and not sure where to start? Industry templates spin up a fully-configured AI agent in one click. Pick the template that best matches your business, give the agent a name, and click Install — we'll wire up the welcome message, the personality, the features, a lead-capture form, and a handful of starter answers your visitors commonly ask.

Included on every plan (Starter, Growth, Pro, Custom). Higher-tier features that are part of a template (for example, scheduling) are quietly skipped if your plan doesn't include them — you can always upgrade later from Account → Subscriptions.

Each card on the Industry templates page shows you exactly what you're getting:

  • Features X / Y — how many of the template's recommended features your plan supports. (For example, on Growth a 4/4 means everything is available.)
  • Starter answers — the number of pre-written FAQ answers we'll save to your knowledge base.
  • Lead fields — the number of fields on the lead-capture form (name, email, phone, and any industry-specific extras).
  • Workflow ideas — the number of industry-typical workflow recipes we suggest after install.
  • Page rules — the number of page-specific behavior rules we'll create as drafts on your agent. Every template ships at least Homepage and Contact; regulated templates ship 3–5 including safety-critical rules (crisis routing, emergency triage, Fair Housing limits).

Click ▶ Preview the welcome message on any card to see the exact first sentence your visitors will see. Click ▶ Page rules (N) to preview the URL patterns and per-page goals we ship for that template.

Safety notes for regulated templates

Some industries — especially healthcare and legal — carry meaningful risk if an assistant overreaches. We ship these templates with strict, non-negotiable guardrails written directly into the agent's system instructions so the AI follows them on every turn:

Template Built-in guardrails (cannot be removed by accident)
Mental Health / Counseling Verbatim crisis script: any mention of self-harm, suicide, harm to others, overdose, abuse, or immediate danger triggers an immediate "call or text 988 / call 911" response. We strongly recommend you do not soften this when editing.
Physician / Medical Practice, Dental, Chiropractic/PT, Med Spa Will not diagnose, will not recommend specific treatment, will not interpret symptoms. Emergency descriptions route to 911 / nearest ER.
Veterinary Clinic Will not diagnose pets. Toxic ingestion or distress symptoms route to clinic phone + ASPCA Animal Poison Control (888) 426-4435.
Law Firm Will not give legal advice, will not assess case outcomes, will not form an attorney-client relationship, will not collect opposing-party details before a human conflict check has cleared.
Real Estate / Property Management Fair Housing: will not characterize neighborhoods (no "safe", "family-friendly", "good schools" language), will not steer based on protected classes. Assistance and service animals are treated separately from pet policy and are never denied under a "no pets" rule.
Automotive Repair Safety-critical symptoms (brake failure, steering loss, smoke) route the visitor to stop driving and call the shop / roadside assistance.

When you edit a regulated template's System instructions, the original safety language is shown in the editor. We recommend leaving it intact. If you remove it, the AI will still try to behave responsibly based on its general training, but you lose the verbatim, deterministic safety language.

How to install a template

  1. Sign in and open AI Agents → Industry templates in the left sidebar.
  2. Find the card that matches your business.
  3. (Optional) Type a custom name into the Agent name box — for example, "Acme Glass Helper". Leave it blank to use our suggested name.
  4. Click Install template.

You'll see a green notification at the top right: "Template installed — review your new agent. N feature(s) enabled, M starter answer(s) saved as drafts."

What gets created

When you install a template, we create:

  • A new AI agent in Draft status. It is not live yet — your visitors won't see it until you turn it on.

  • Recommended features are enabled on the agent (for example, lead capture, quote intake, scheduling). Features that require a higher plan are skipped and noted in the success message.

  • Starter knowledge items — short FAQ-style answers for the questions visitors most commonly ask in your industry. These are also saved as drafts so you can review and edit them before they go live.

  • A lead-capture form sized for your industry. For example, the Glass template asks for project type and approximate dimensions in addition to name, email, and phone.

  • Page rule templates — per-URL behavior rules that tighten what the agent does on specific pages. Every template ships at least a Homepage rule and a Contact rule; regulated templates also ship safety-critical rules (for example, a /emergency* rule that fast-routes to your office phone, or a /*crisis* rule that runs the 988/911 protocol verbatim). These ship attached to your agent but not bound to a website yet — they show as Needs site in the Per-page behavior tab.

To assign them all in one click: open the agent, switch to the Per-page behavior tab, and click the orange "N rules need a website — assign them all" button at the top right. Pick the website that should run these rules, click Assign all, and every unbound rule is wired up at once. If you'd rather pick a website per rule (or assign some to one site and some to another), use the row-level Edit action — or tick the boxes for a subset and use the Assign to website bulk action. Until they're assigned they're harmless drafts that won't affect any live traffic.

We also suggest a small list of workflow ideas for your industry. These appear on the template card under Suggested workflow ideas, and we mention the count in the install success message. They are intentionally just ideas — we don't auto-create workflow recipes, because the steps depend on your own tools and policies. Open the Workflows menu after install to build any of them; see 12 — Workflows for how recipes work and which tier you need.

What to do after installing

Templates are a head start, not a finish line. Spend 10 minutes customizing before going live:

  1. Open the new agent from AI Agents → Agents in the sidebar. It will appear at the top of your list with a Draft badge.
  2. Rename it if you want — for example, give it a personality that matches your brand.
  3. Edit the welcome message and system instructions under the Agent tab. Mention your company name, hours, and anything specific to your business.
  4. Review starter knowledge under the Knowledge tab. Update prices, service areas, and policies to match your real business. Change each one from Draft to Active when it's ready.
  5. Edit lead-capture fields under the Lead capture tab — add or remove fields to match what your sales team actually needs.
  6. Turn the agent on by changing its status from Draft to Active.
  7. Embed it on your website using the snippet on the Embed tab.

Can I install more than one template?

Yes — install as many as you like, as long as you have agent slots available on your plan:

Plan Agents you can have
Starter 1
Growth 3
Pro 10
Custom Unlimited

If you're at your limit, every Install button will be disabled and an amber notice at the top will explain the limit and link you to the upgrade page.

Frequently asked questions

Will installing a template overwrite my existing agent? No. Every install creates a brand-new agent. Your existing agents and their conversations are never modified.

The agent name I want is already taken — what happens? We automatically append -2, -3, etc. to the URL slug so the agent is still unique. The display name stays exactly what you typed.

Why are my starter answers in Draft status? So you have a chance to review them before they go live. Templates are designed for your industry but not your specific business — prices, service areas, and policies need a quick edit.

What if my industry isn't listed? We currently ship sixteen templates and add new ones regularly. Pick the closest match and customize the welcome message, system instructions, and starter answers — that gets most users 90% of the way. Or, on the Custom plan, email support@coffield.io and we'll build a template tailored to your business.

Can I edit the regulated-template safety guardrails? Yes — but we strongly recommend you don't soften them. The verbatim crisis script in the Mental Health template, the Fair Housing language in the Real Estate template, and the no-diagnose / no-advice rules in healthcare and legal templates are there to keep both your visitors and your business safe. If you genuinely need to change them, get sign-off from the people responsible for compliance at your organization first.

Troubleshooting

  • "Install template" button is disabled — you've hit your agent limit. Delete an unused agent or upgrade your plan.
  • A feature I expected isn't enabled — it likely requires a higher plan. The success message lists which features were skipped. Upgrade from Account → Subscriptions to enable them.
  • I don't see the Industry templates menu — your account needs the Manage agents permission. Ask the workspace owner to grant it under Team & permissions.

Still stuck? Email support@coffield.io and tell us which template you tried.
